The Sony STC-7000 Preamplifier is paired with a Sony TA-3200F Amplifier and a pair of Sansui SP-300 speakers and the sound is mesmerizing and compelling. I just keep putting on vinyls and coming back again and again.

No, I did not get that Sony STC-7000 Tuner/Preamplifier up and running yet. This is a different one that is up and running. The power switch has been replaced on it as it was malfunctioning when I bought it. Also several transistors were replaced.

I bought an old Sony STR-6120. They say John Lennon owned one of these in New York. I’m checking it out before I hook it up to anything, but it looks good so far. Here’s the insides from the top, bottom, and front.

Testing it out now, and unfortunately it didn’t completely fix the problem. It’s still doing it a bit, but not as often. I will have to go back in next week for more testing.

It was a leaky capacitor causing the problem, and actually getting warm. It has now been replaced. The old gray Elna 50v 220µF capacitor came out, and now there’s now a new little blue one that you can see in this picture.

This week, I started noticing a problem with this tuner. The local oscillator started shifting frequencies for some reason.

I had to get a new Low Pass Filter for my favorite FM Radio Tuner, my Sony ST-5000F from 1967-68. The old Low Pass Filter failed. It’s working perfectly now, connected through my DT-30 timer for turning it off or on. The Archer antenna pulls in the local college radio station. The sound is great.
