True. Goes back to his first couple of years and "the best QB room in the country" or whatever he said. But I gave him grace for that statement because he's not an offensive coach.

And maybe his statement of being "shocked" is more of a statement for the players to hear and know that he expects more of them than Kyle being truly shocked.

But I don't know, I just think it's such a weird thing to hear from a man who has forgotten more football expertise than I will ever know.

I think Utah teams tend to slightly overvalue their own talent when they play really good teams. Unless it's clear that there's a talent gap, I recall several head-scratchers over the years that show an odd disconnect.

Anyone with eyes can see that Tech is really good in the trenches. Utah is good, but isn't the Denver Broncos. No one else was "shocked."

Absolutely, no question. As far as Utah's qualifications, they are solidly on par with the middle of the Big 10 (I'd rank them 10 out 18.) But just being a potential mid to high middle Big 10 program is never going to be good enough to justify them being added to the conference imo.

I was thinking the same thing as I watched the game. I'm hoping Dampier has some early success on the ground so that teams bite on his ability to run and enable someone else to take over the ground game as we move through the season 😅
