Sometimes I Paint Cats
@sometimeartist.bsky.social
I used to paint cats and before that frogs and reptiles, been too distracted by our current dumpster fire to do either for a year now. Nature lover, butterfly gardener, milkweed spreader, amateur composter/worm farmer, social moron. Fuck Trump.
Aboo loves swatting crinkle balls out of the air!

Here is Olive, our little devil!

I’m getting ready to start my first painting project in over a year and am very excited about it! My teenager has requested a homemade Star Trek memory game. During the Covid lockdown we watched a LOT of LOR and I painted this big Hobbit/LOR mashup version for Christmas. #games #memory #lor #fanart

Saw a magical moment of a large group of turkey vultures quietly wheeling and gliding just above the treetops in the last rays of today’s sun.

Stapelia gigantea, commonly known as starfish flower (because of its beautiful shape) and carrion flower (because of its terrible smell!). This is one of my favorite plants. It is easy to grow and propagate, has these startlingly gorgeous flowers that smell awful and is pollinated by flies!

We have snow in the forecast on Monday. I’ve been raking leaves into the flowerbeds and watering them down in the hopes they will stay put and yesterday this common buckeye landed for a drink, all dressed in fall colors. I didn’t realize they migrate too until I looked for its info for this post!

This is our first fall with Olive and Paycheck. Today it’s not climbing out of the 50’s so Olive saw her first hot herbal tea steaming in my favorite mug (shaped like an octopus). She was pretty suspicious about the whole thing.

I found this very big bald faced hornet in one of my gardening tubs in the garage this morning. I think she might have been a queen. She was so impressive and handsome I carried her out and placed her in a part of the flower beds I’m done messing with for the year so she can hibernate.

My Stapelia’s giant balloon bud opened today!

This lovely lady lived on our front porch for several weeks. She’s gone now but left behind her egg sac. I hope to see her children in the butterfly garden next year.

I only have a couple of books but here is one of my favorites!

No Kings protesters returning from the March around the courthouse west Lafayette and Lafayette IN! Hundreds and hundreds of people showed up. Many thanks to @lafayetteindivisible.com

I think the turnout in Indiana is going to be huge!

And you can see how calmly the police approached this guy even though the crowd was yelling that he had a gun. I can’t imagine any minority being treated with such kid gloves or completely undeserved respect. This is the ugly face of white privilege, and I say that as an older white lady.

It was inspiring to see so many people come out in Lafayette Indiana, and the support from cars driving by was huge! This is just the beginning!

It was an awesome turnout!

Hands off! Lafayette Indiana!

Lafayette Indiana had a big turn out too!

Aboo and Lumi are soaking up some sun with our cactus and Stapelia plant this afternoon.

I’m about to do some painting for the first time since April!

I can’t tell is Boba is a male or female spider yet. They have eaten several fruit flies already!
December 18, 2024 at 6:53 PM
Finally planted milkweed seeds and got them outside. Lumi helped but got a little silky parachute stuck to her lips!

It’s gloomy and rainy in Indiana today, thinking back to this lovely day in St. Pete, summer of 2022!

Just found this cutie on a houseplant! It’s 16 degrees outside. Luckily I already have a spider house ready to go. I just need a name and some fruit flies!
