As a somewhat older fan, I can verify that the silly "canon" discussions have been going on since 1978 with the books "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" and when the Marvel comic book series debuted its post-movie narrative in issue #7.

Sure! Spawn was the hottest book in the early 90's from then-new Image Comics (founded by breakaway artists from Marvel). Somehow, creator Todd MacFarlane screwed up the production schedule and #22 was the issue released directly after #19, and then issues 20 and 21 eventually came out after #24!
