Both these things can happen because while she continues to take such great leaps and some risks with her music, there is an understandable want for her to go bolder and be MORE. Something a collaborator on this album has done her whole career.

The multi-lingual aspect and religious inspiration can come off as window dressing for an otherwise gorgeous, glittering album that works through it's sweeping, dramatic movements into simpler, more quaint sounds and songs, & it does switch between the two at times to emphasize stronger emotions

I know I had that first blush reaction to this album and I still feel very strongly about it, but talking with the bf earlier today after listening to Fantano's review helped me understand more of their critiques of it and why they came about
