Stories in Grain and Light

I can still remember the magic of Saturday matinees as a kid—25 cents for the movie, 15 cents for a drink and snack. Growing up in a small Ontario town, the excitement of heading downtown to the theatre was unforgettable.

A Hasselblad Whisper in the Wilderness

Pitt Lake and the Pitt Addington Marsh remain one of my favourite places to wander. Quiet and peaceful, they sit cradled by the magnificent Coast Mountains. This valley is almost entirely untouched wilderness, minutes from home, yet it feels worlds away.

Little Gifts in the Gloom

I love photographing mushrooms. Just when the west coast settles into the gloom and rain of fall, these little gifts push through the forest floor.

Restoring a Moment in Telephone History

By the mid‑1940s, operator‑assisted calls were giving way to automated dial service. This candlestick, stamped September 1945, sat silent for decades—its dial frozen, wiring buried under nicotine.

My Happy Place

Analogue photography offers a uniquely satisfying, hands-on experience. Unlike the instant nature of digital, it demands intention, loading film, setting exposure, and developing in the darkroom.

A Window from Time

I’m always stopping to photograph old windows and doors. The details and imperfections are what make them beautiful. The rough, hand-hewn wood frame adds texture and warmth, while the wavy glass dates back to a time when molten glass was poured by hand.

Rescued From a 65-Year Sleep – Kodak Panatomic

I was recently asked to develop an unprocessed roll of Kodak Panatomic 120 film from the 1950s and passed it my way.

Whispers on the Alouette

I’m so grateful to call Canada’s west coast home. Just minutes from my doorstep, I’m surrounded by beautiful landscapes and untouched wilderness.

Stillness and Structure

There’s something compelling about symmetry—especially when it shows up in places most people overlook.

Careful about Energizer batteries on Amazon! This one almost damaged a favourite camera. It’s a counterfeit.

In my studio restoring a Pentax K1000, I reached for the fisheye lens. Its wide, distorted view captured not just me, but the tools, atmosphere, and energy of the space—a moment that reflects my passion for film cameras and the hands-on work of keeping them alive.
