I was covering the rally tonight and noted the same thing.

For reference, the city did not do this during the November budget protests (which I also covered).

There were significantly fewer protesters today. The only major difference was what they were protesting and the colour of their skin.
Went to the rally outside city hall in protest of Mayor Leal’s racism, then attended the council meeting. 6 cops watching the rally and the doors to city hall were locked, requiring security guards to let us in. I have not seen City Hall do that before, even in response to much larger rallies. #ptbo

A member of the audience just declared that CTV has called Peterborough for Emma Harrison. The Peterborough Examiner and Metroland has also called it for Emma Harrison.

ONTARIO ELECTION 2025: Smith skips 'single issue' debate on housing and homelessness
Incumbent Progressive Conservative candidate explained not showing up to "single issue" debate was personal choice, and not a direction from the party.

How does your ward councillor vote on issues that matter to you? Today, we're launching a citizen engagement tool to help you answer that question. Have a browse of our brand new Council Vote Tracker.

This is a pilot project — we want feedback!
