Well that's the thing about the USA. it's not one homogeneous culture. not everyone has the same experience as you. I really don't like driving, it stresses me out and I'd really like to take a train or a bike. but as it stand vast majority of US infrastructure is built to constrict you to only cars

as the USA is currently, you can't travel to work without a car unless you live in a city with dedicated public or alternative transportation. and even then a lot of car and oil companies have lobbyists that are working on weakening accessibility to reinforce reliance on cars.

there's a lot of issues with cars.

it's less about putting skyscrapers in random areas and stuff and more about affordable housing, and accessibility of transportation. as well as reducing our dependence on car and oil corporations.
