Oh I 100% agree with you and was empathizing. Shortcuts are always attractive, but the trick of LLMs—it’s pitched (by corps and unis!) as a thinking tool that is then tasked with doing all the thinking—is particularly insideous.

But maybe Barro just believes the goal of school should be to sort children based on characteristic separate from knowledge and ability. That's a common, and disgusting, belief.
