It’s infuriating to me that I need to evaluate media to determine whether it’s AI generated now. The great “time saver” technology wastes incalculable time and energy for people who want to retain their grasp on reality

I'm so tired of this shit. LLMs are a useful technology in the right setting. Absolutely nobody is helped by grifting and unsubstantiated hype peddling, except for grifters and valuations.

I simply don't get why smart people would lend themselved to this kind of bullshit.

great thread. people struggle to imagine themselves as part of that ecosystem of media and narratives because they were taugt to imagine themselves as autonomous subjects, as "independent minds" that listen to media and speak language just for fun.
People’s ideas about the world are formed mostly from their social environment.

Their social environment includes their parasocial environment: media and social media.

The parasocial share of our social environment has been growing for many decades.

I'm going to do a little thread on how the money from books works for traditionally published authors because people have questions, and this is always useful info to share IMO. First, a big disclaimer that every contract is different, and there are a million factors that can change things. 1/

Seeing how much of the right-wing on Twitter is just bot farms, kinda lays bare how much hate and hatred is a project that needs to be constantly maintained, a fire that needs to be fed all the time lest it go out for a moment, so much time, effort, and resources to keep people angry and hateful.

This video of Sugriva using Instagram is shocking because it's so similar to how humans use social media--engaging with content that triggers our emotions, like images of our friends and foes.

Immediately had questions like

Why has the public to make sure those AI stuff has enough energy? What is their share in this?

What would happen if every company has issues afterwards?
