New paper! 🎉 I presented this at @iaseai.bsky.social in Feb 2025. The standard AI ethics view considers Carebots' artificiality problematic. Islamic ethics differ: AI as "neutragents" may be preferable for practicing Muslims, avoiding strangers. link.springer.com/article/10.1... #philtech #philsky

The paradox of providing students with precise rubrics for writing assignments like a traditional paper is that the rubric becomes a perfect prompt for LLMs. But if you don't give a detailed rubric, they can claim they weren't sure what to do or not do. #philtech #philsky

It took a while for philosophers of mind to get into the new AI game. Regrettably, they seem to be playing the PR game with outdated terms like “consciousness”. Given the popular appeal of this strategy, I foresee years of unbearable and retrograde debate for philosophy of AI.

Does anyone know of data on how long it typically takes to write a Phil paper (publishable in at least mid-tier journals)? For example, research, writing, editing, revision, revision 2 etc?

I’m curious about how many hrs philo researchers & teachers generally work.
