"On a side note, the introduction by Mike Lombardo may have left me a bit misty-eyed as well."

"While the exposition rambles a bit at times the overall narrative is extremely well done; the plot is superbly crafted, the characters have depth & are quite intriguing, the action is phenomenal, & the ending, though absolutely heart-wrenching, is brilliantly handled!"

"Of the five novels I've now read by J.F. Gonzalez, this is currently my hands-down favorite, & I think it’s absolutely some of his best work!"

"While I enjoyed some more than others (due to my personal connection to the subject matter, 'Midnight Promises' still hits hard) there's not a bad one in the bunch, & there should be a little something for everyone's tastes. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable read!"

"This was Richard Chizmar's first published work, yet every entry reads as being expertly composed by an experienced veteran."

"...I essentially got back around to it much sooner than expected, & I can say with the utmost certainty that the stories were just as good the second time!"

"As I stated in my review of the aforementioned collection, 'Though it may be some time before I get back around to it, I'm already looking forward to reading this one again at some point in the future!',..."

"Almost immediately after starting this one I realized I had recently read all but 3 of the entries in A LONG DECEMBER just this past August, but since I had already committed, I decided to continue on."

"Speaking of everything coming to a head, this was one of the most action-packed & exciting finales I've read this year, & that was a pretty high bar! As far as that ending is concerned...Damn you, Brian Keene! Damn you! *High five*"

"There is a whole lot going on with a bunch of characters in different places & it may be a bit challenging to keep track of who's who initially, but they're so well-developed & memorable that once everything comes to a head they feel as close as friends or family."

"This was the beginning/near the beginning of the development of Brian's overarching mythos, & the supernatural premise (aside from the aforementioned 28 DAYS LATER) is actually a more believable explanation than many of the other zombie stories."
November 18, 2025 at 3:45 AM
"Throw the infected from 28 DAYS LATER & the zombies from WORLD WAR Z into a blender, add in a heavy dose of zombie animals & birds (yeah!), then top it off with the depravity of human beings in an apocalypse, & you have THE RISING by @briankeene.bsky.social!"

"Now that was a freakin' zombie story!"

"The resolution you were seeking does finally come to fruition, but it may not be the one you expected. Coupled with the novel it immediately follows (paperback version of RED), it results in a perfect one-two punch by this amazing author!"

My review of THE PASSENGER: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"This was pure Jack Ketchum, 93-pages of sheer terror and human depravity! Just when you think things can't get any worse, turning the pages hoping for some sort of resolution, the author pushes you head first deeper into the darkness!"

"With its genuine characters & absolutely brilliant storytelling, RED will likely remain one of my favorite novels by the author!"

My review of RED: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"Having thoroughly enjoyed 10 of Jack Ketchum's works prior to this one & after reading the synopsis I thought I had a good idea of how it would go, but much to my surprise, it was not at all as I expected, which made it all the more enjoyable!"
