I run a produce store, a florist, a wine shop, and mostly post about bike lanes.

📍Hyde Park, Chicago
This is…not the map I would have guessed.

Should I make this a series?

1. Continuous sidewalk/bike lane, sharp entrance curb for cars entering side street.

2. "Parking lane" alternates between car parking, bike parking, bus stop, trees. It's a multi-use lane, essentially.

3. Wide bike lane + mountable curb means a stopped car is no problem for this cyclist.

Now they are replanting with *mixed* species.

2011 / 2015 / 2025

Look at the parkway (strip of grass between sidewalk and street)

There are very urban few streets in Europe that look like this.

There are some! And it's getting better!

Looks like they repaired the wall just north of here in 2007 and also cut down the trees there at that time; happened to be caught on street view.

Wall was in pretty bad shape, dropping rocks on the sidewalk.

Looks like they tore quite a few trees out too?

The original DOT-installed hazard board met its fate two years ago today, weirdly. (Photo from Nov 25, 2023)

Are they widening the sidewalk and bus stop at 55th and Lake Park by cutting into the Metra embankment? Or just rebuilding the retaining wall?

Let’s try this again

Here's St. Paul police spraying what appears to be a chemical irritant into someone's face who is standing perfectly still and filming them.

This is unprovoked battery. Get your shit together, St. Paul.

Due to a 1884 UK law that makes it difficult to decommission rail lines, sometimes they just run 1 train per week to technically keep the line open.

In this case part of the line was removed for HS2 construction, so now they run a once a week rail replacement bus.

Aiming a gun at an unarmed civilian who is not posing a threat.

Should be an immediately fireable offense.

I believe this is the 4th incarnation of a Paris-Berlin night train in my adult life.

Oh sorry, it was actualy the SJP statement.

(And just to clarify, I don't agree with everything in this statement! But they do acknowledge Palestinian war crimes.)

Yeah unless you ski or used to live somewhere cold, there is little reason to own a parka in NYC.

Chicago vs NYC days below 15 F per year:

Good to know we can’t afford speed bumps in the richest country on the planet.

Anyway here’s a typical 4-way residential intersection in Oslo, a city that typically has 0 or 1 traffic deaths per year. Paint only.
