This is in homage to the way a video game's score responds to the input of the person playing the game. Marco tells me that the piece sounds very "video gamey" too, but that was by accident ! I literally cannot help myself.

I hope you're able tune in and check out the performance !!

The Intro section is played only once while the Loop section is divided into several segments which the performer is instructed to perform any number of times and at any volume according to the performer's discretion.

Intro & Loop is named after the naming convention I use in my video game music work. Typically, a game music file is divided into two portions: the "Intro," which plays only once, and the "Loop," which plays until an appropriate moment in the game, such as when a player completes a level. iykyn 😉

A lot of the work I do in my game music composition is more "subtle" when it comes to the capital a "Art" of it all, but pieces like this give me the opportunity to really flex those muscles and show the audience the amount of depth I can bring to my music when it's appropriate.

This piece, "Stalagmite" is one of the times in my earlier career that I think I pulled that off. Written circa 2008, at the ripe old age of [redacted], back when my DAW of choice was Cubase. I think it's still a good one

Here's to the creative spirit 🍷

(and as always, available on spotify ~)

Luckily, the hopeful thing about our early work is that it's impossible to give yourself over to the creative spirit on a regular basis without occasionally stumbling onto greatness.

- which betrays a little lie I told earlier -- actually, the best way to describe music (if you ask me) is with as many senses as possible. I need sounds, pictures, and words.

and here's how it turned out

I usually like to combine those with supporting words, pictures, and descriptions that fit with the project and will contribute to it in the best way possible.⠀

We've been looking at the Creative Direction document for the music and sound design in The Stars Between Us,(working title: Stargazer)

When I'm starting a project, I like to pull together musical examples that cover different aspects of what we're trying to do with our creative vision.
October 30, 2025 at 7:11 PM
One of the most important parts of any collaborative, creative project is making sure that everyone is on the same page - and there's nothing like a Creative Direction doc to do that. What I've ended up learning is, basically - the best way to describe music is... with music.⠀

yup!!! Honestly, I want to find a way for more of us to tap in to this. My collab with @memodemo.zip on this track is my proof-of-concept first test of this -- I think we gotta collab more!!
Go for Broke!!!
