If your hypothesis is right and the exact degree is sufficiently low, you will now by computing extra digits. There is some kind optimization.algorithm inder the hood & I guess this option steers toward lower or higher degree, but does not dictate the degree itself

Landau-Lifshitz vol III also emphasizes CSCO. But it is not a matter of belief, it's a matter of the entirety of physically possible determinstic measurements that defines CSCO.
