Propaganda in cinemas, newsrooms slashed: this is the US media under Trump and his tech barons | Nesrine Malik
The president and his supporters joining forces to decide what audiences read and see seems straight from a fascism playbook, says Guardian columnist Nesrine Malik

Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day. I fled the place my grandparents settled to the place they fled Nazis. Every thing done during those dark times to help others mattered immensely and are celebrated. Resistance, empathy and humanity matter.

Fleeing the United States
I quickly left behind most of my possessions, my friends, community, and my country to start my life over in the city where my grandmother fled Nazis.

I can't believe I'm posting this video - but we actually have to have a conversation about the real world implications of America going to war over Greenland.

Let me walk you through it. It doesn't turn out well for us.

A stellar puncturing of the gasbaggery of Ross Douthat.

“… the existence of Believe is its own best counterproof: in a world where religious truths were as obvious and reasonable as Douthat wants them to be, there would be no need for him to write it.”
God of the Gaps | Robert P. Baird
Ross Douthat’s usual contrarian approach, in his recent book Believe, leads to a curiously impotent, watered-down account of religious experience.

Books about “Asian wife sharing.” Detailed descriptions of orgies. Scenes involving “ladyboys.”

That’s what @dfriedman.bsky.social discovered on a Goodreads page tied to the email address of a top Pentagon official and mentor to Pete Hegseth.

What came next was even wilder.
I asked the Pentagon about Pete Hegseth's mentor. Then the threats started.

Let’s pause to remember how very long the US (and Republicans especially) have been meddling in Central America to create dysfunctional dictatorships and client states and the conditions that drive millions to migrate… to the US! Where they are now treated as enemy invaders.
