Skimmers' beaks are elongated on the bottom mandible, which enable them to "skim" their bills along the surface of the water in order to catch small fish.

My beautiful friend, Duck-Duck. She arrived with a dislocated bottom jaw so we hand fed her until she adapted. She departed before winter and I’m so hopeful I’ll see her again soon. (Worried pseudo-mom to a wild mallard.)
