On July 1, the ATLAS survey telescope—funded by NASA—spotted comet 3I/ATLAS, the third known interstellar object to pass through our solar system. Originating outside the solar system, it’ll make its closest approach to the Sun around October 30, 2025, then disappear back into interstellar space
