It is literally that simple. We are, right now, talking about an ethically compromised work. If that is immoral, you are currently committing a moral trespass.
You need a better framework for this shit than vibes and what ifs.

I'll actually go a step further and posit that you should make a point of infrequently engaging with problematic media. It's good for the immune system.

If you're not giving them money and you're not giving them the free advertising, no, there's literally no ethical issue with engaging morally compromised or problematic media. The "giving money to people committing moral trespasses" thing is literally the entire balance of the equation.

The number of younger activists I have seen rapidly burn themselves out by hooking their raw central nervous system directly to the live current of human suffering for 16 hours a day in recent years is heartbreaking. You need to pick 2, maybe 3 things to care about and care about them a lot.

The story of the monkey's paw is actually about getting something you didn't want that's similar to what you asked for, not getting something you wanted that's related to what you asked for.

The exact same people want them both against the wall, and the comparison is borne out of that fact. Someone's kink makes you uncomfortable? Don't try to legislate them away, turn your head.

If you want to "take off the glasses of ideology" then maybe don't tackle a deeply political topic like racism in pre-civil rights America? What the FUCK are you talking about?

There are very real and nuanced discussions to have about the venn diagram of kink and queerness, queer history and sex work, the difference between representation and exploitation. But ultimately, the bottom line is "an artist shouldn't need to ask the oppressors' permission".

And yes, I do know who Collective Shout is and what they're beliefs are, and what is currently going on in global politics. But I find it irksome that every time an artist is silenced by a policy like this, it needs to be framed as "X group could be next" instead of "all censorship is wrong."

Queer media and creators were not the primary target of this attack. They targeted "hard kink" media (non-con, incest, etc.) because they know it's hard to defend. You have to defend the hard stuff on its own artistic merit if you want censorship of any and all kind to stop.

I think it's really funny that you seem to think there's an alternate reality here where itch tells payment processors to fuck off and you somehow still get income after that. Like, no, you would still not be paid and 500k other artists would also get fucked then. You need to go take a lap on this.

We have not denied any payouts to creators as part of yesterday's review. If there are any creators in which we are unable to process a payout for then we'll contact them directly.
We do understand that the eligibility message is confusing given the context so we're updating the text on the notices
