Bill 36 mandates that College board members and the superintendent who oversees the Colleges are appointed by the Minister of Health. Professionals should not be subject to standards set or discipline meted out by partisan government appointees.

3. Examine the inpatient burden in BC. There’s lots of stuff better managed outside of acute care facilities. This would lead to better outcomes, increased capacity, & less expensive care.

4. Provide universal mental health services in BC - game changer.

REDUCE DEMAND

1. Focus on healthcare (prevention and primary care) to decrease illness care.

2. Pay attention to the top ailments (& pathogens) making us (patients & healthcare providers that become patients) sick and mitigate against those diseases.

3. Listen to local healthcare professionals – many have great ideas for their own communities (I’ve heard them), but have faced needless barriers from the Ministry of Health.

2. Overhaul the archaic BC College rules that make it so difficult for docs trained outside of Canada to work here, even if they’ve worked in other areas of Canada for years.

INCREASE/OPTIMIZE SUPPLY

Training more health professionals to increase supply is necessary but will take time. In the meantime:

1. Team based care – we can accomplish so much more with the current supply by letting doctors be doctors & expanding teams beyond MDs.
