But that's no excuse for how that one person treated you. You'd think if they cared enough about you to get you to come, they'd care enough to hang out and include you.

I've had more success meeting folks at smaller, more local cons. Big cons have people travel far to meet folks they never get to see, so they hyperfocus on that at the expense of meeting new ones. But cons with mostly locals? Much easier, since they can see those regular friends anytime.
