While I’m at it: there’s a whole category of classical pieces which, though perfectly good, even great, pall through over-exposure. Overtures are vulnerable to this, perhaps because they’re a convenient length. I’d be happy not to hear Thieving Magpie, Coriolane, Egmont, Candide … for a few years
