Oxford experienced its sunniest year on record in 2025, according to new analysis from the University of Oxford’s Radcliffe Meteorological Station. 2025 was also Oxford’s third warmest year on record, 0.7˚C warmer than the 30-year average from 1991 to 2020.

Contractors are on site at the Kidlington fly-tip ahead of the full removal starting at the end of February. Pits are being excavated at different depths to get a cross section of the waste materials, tracks for heavy vehicle access are being scoped out, and a site compound established.

As of January “more than half – 120 out of 208 – of local authorities in the UK, covering 48% of the total population have a policy of 20mph being the norm for most urban/village roads. The outdated 30mph limit stands as rejected by a majority of authorities and is national in name only”
What was distinctive about 2025 for 20’s Plenty for Us was how the narrative developed from whether to introduce 20mph limits as an urban/village norm into how they should be implemented.
Will 2026 become the year that UK transitions to a de-facto 20mph norm for urban/village streets?

Oxfordshire's Coalition for Healthy Streets and Active Travel (COHSAT) has welcomed the Government's new Road Safety Strategy, saying that in Oxfordshire 270 people are killed or seriously injured on the roads every year. It questions if the plans are bold enough to achieve its targets.
