Any nihonga specialist knows what bird this is? It looks like a dove who inherited a miniature cormorant beak.

A request for biologists (reposts appreciated): do you have any images of "reduction spots" like those in the Mars biosignature paper, but on Earth and 100% confirmed to be caused by life?
Also welcome: pic of any "leopard spots" patterns caused by colonies of organisms.

?
The closest one is "PMC_0003_MCC_i" and j (1st image) but still the texture does not map to the picture correctly. It's too low and possibly too short. What am I getting wrong?

Specifically, I would like to know what are the differences between these columns representing the locations of the x-ray beam, and why none of the values seem to map exactly to the picture taken by the MCC (the values map to completely different areas, and the scale seems slightly incorrect)

I don't imagine there's any evidence for this, but it would be funny if it was true. Because what is the predator of vultures supposed to be, and what bird is supposed to have a giant face like that? A pterodactyl? 😂

finally found that stupid Mars data, it only took HOURS of digging in nonsensically named files :/

If you haven't yet, come see our poster designed by my coauthor Harrison.
Tl;dr: if some lifeforms were going around terraforming planets, we could detect them* even without a working definition of "life" or "habitability"

"Hi Lana,

You've been living in Japan for the entire history of your gmail address, and you've never been to Oregon.
Therefore we have decided to change your account region to Oregon. If you don't like it fill this form, that will reject your request because your account is already in Japan."

Very convincing. I am convinced. Is this satire?

@elizabethtasker.bsky.social when will JAXA have some merch at the same high level as NASA?

I want this data from this paper: doi.org/10.1038/s415...
But all I have is a bunch of DOIs leading to a bunch of pages leading to the same page leading to this directory with a lot of probably unrelated data.

Hi! So I've created the rule, but it's still capturing lowercase "alife" posts and adding it to the feed. Am I doing something wrong?

UMAP gives very aesthetic results on different slices of this dataset. My favorite is this broccoli and ketchup one

Interesting data analysis moment today, trying to cluster a 10 dimensional dataset.
The raw data shows neat separation on one axis, but PCA mashes it together. tnse gave me a plate of beans, and UMAP found 3 clean clusters.
