It could have been worse. There is a whole lexicon you didn’t make use of - something something electrospray?

Fundamental. I tell all my students that if you cite something in an assignment, make sure you have a copy of it and make sure you have you read it to ensure it says what you think it does. Don’t rely on someone else’s view of it - no secondary citation!

Right now, Perth Airport is my favourite- but only because when I next see it I will be home.

Back in the late 80s when I did my degree I remember being taught about diazomethane. Lecturer said “oh this is just for interest - you won’t use it”. First week in my year out in industry “there’s the fume cupboard you will be preparing the diazomethane next week…” 😳

And it’s beautiful. I’m a sucker for maps.

Oh, I don’t disagree with anything you say. It’s very much going to be a case of trial and error, but we have also reached a point where the overwhelming reach of the companies that control social media has to be reigned in. Their ability to cause real harm has been clear for awhile now.

Agreed - the public discussion of the pros and cons (avoiding the usual suspects) has been reasoned and fair. Yes there are concerns, but the potential positive payout is huge. This recent commentary from ABC: apple.news/A3ur1fpLyRmi....
Parents could grant Labor the grace the opposition won't on social media ban — ABC News
Australia's social media age ban is one of the most significant attempts to rebalance the asymmetric power relationship between government and tech.

Thankfully my colleagues are being way more supportive (and generous) as I move into an interim role as Head of School, but it is still rather jarring to see such commentary.

Love that movie. One of those reliable movies when you just need to forget crap. Others on my list - The Castle, Strictly Ballroom, Moonstruck.

Oh oh, is that a sign we are entering yet another period of performative “patriotism”.

Makes me feel physically sick. I cannot know what impact this must be having on folk. Just so sorry. I guess this poison has always been there, but has been enabled and energised by pathetic “leadership” by successive governments and a rabid media.
