Software engineer at @imperialcollegeldn.bsky.social, doing research in orthopaedics.

Loves model trains, science fiction and vintage microprocessors, doesn't own an anorak. Also likes to cook and take photographs, not necessarily of my cooking.
Dark chocolate digestives though! I don’t know if it’s the combination of serotonin and carbs, but they’re my special migraine pills.

45-47 should bé reclaimed as the next 6-7. Example:

“What do you think of my idea?”

“Well, it’s a bit 45-47”

Translation
“What do you think of my idea?”

“On the one hand, I think it’s shit. On the other hand, I think it’s shit.”

I bet it reminds him of his phone PIN. He’s so vain you just know that would be the number.

almost nothing. The Interrupt Disable bit in the status register does gets set to disable interrupts.

You wouldn’t want an IRQ being serviced before you’d had a chance to set things up!

I am shocked. I’d always assumed that David Mitchell had contributed to the writing of Upstart Crow, but seems it was all Ben Elton.

Streeting’s Traitors joke?

Only if I’m not paying attention. I usually get off at Stockwell.

I’m not sure which is the bigger faux pas here:

Making conversation at the urinal, or referring to the MD, to his face, as an employee.

‘Months later’ - I suspect they may have been leftovers after she didn’t need them any more.

And even then you can only get the low strength 8/500 (mg codeine/mg paracetamol) Co-codamol over the counter in the U.K. Still need a prescription for the strong stuff: 15/500 and 30/500.

Codeine of any strength is a controlled substance in Greece.

Who is this Al, and how come he gets so much sex?

(the perils of a world without serifs)

A friend used to feed his dog the high end stuff, but it had chronic pancreatitis and the vet suggested Chappie instead (has a low fat content, apparently) which is much cheaper.

“Like a ninja” - do you clean the air fryer too?

It is quite fitting that the UK’s proposed retirement age of 68 (currently 66, rising to 67 in the next couple of years) is almost exactly INT_MAX (32-bit) seconds.

Obviously we become redundant when we roll over into negative numbers.

It’s not just porn sites though. The brush is quite broad if there’s a possibility of someone uploading adult material. Even this place made me do an age check.

Everyone dumps Soliloquy when they discover she’s tracking them in her database.

29 months? I’m reading this on a 5 1/2 year old iPhone SE.

You can scan it at at any time. But yeah, if there's no activity for a while during a session it will put up a 'do you need more time?' dialogue box.

Although having a somewhat suspicious mind, I might avoid a checkout that's not on its start screen when I get there.

I'm British, and always smirk when 'nonce' appears in cryptographic discussions. Nonce meaning something used once comes from Middle English.

Can we check the origin of those posts promoting Brexit now? (as if we hadn’t already guessed!)

Morphine pump settings should adhere strictly to the rules of Fizz-Buzz.

Things won’t seem so odd any more.

I presume this is a post lockdown anecdote where nobody bothers going to work on a Friday and Friday drinks have become Thursday drink.

Wine that nobody has touched in years? In our house? 🤣

Things were a bit crazy in the early days when we didn't know exactly what it was. We invented quarantine systems for the mail and went to the supermarket shrouded in protective clothing.
