"Getting AI to write documents in such a way that another AI reading the document will pull out and summarise the points you want it to."

Is a summary of a real discussion I have just been part of.

This came out better than I expected. Walking home, clear moonlit night, Orion visible above the trees, heading towards the streetlights.

My kindle oasis now has a 90 min battery life, and Amazon don't sell them anymore.

No worries, you can still buy them from China, although they won't read the DRM kindle books.

Which is fine because I've DeDRMed all of mine. Except I can't then buy new ones, because the DRM has been updated.

In 1181 the collision of two white dwarfs was recorded as a nova in China. The collision formed a new white dwarf that is slightly larger than one can usually be. It's still here because it's very hot (surface temp 200,000K) due to the heating of the radioactive decay ⁵⁶Ni → ⁵⁶Co.

Mocks time.

Daughter's school: here is your personalised exam timetable, showing what time and which room your exams are in.

Son's school: here's all the exams in a crappily formatted PDF. Be careful, there are conflicts and repeats because we've squeezed everything in to 5 days.

If this carries on the brake pads in the ID3 will last... 300,000 miles.

Was in a taxi ID4 earlier today where the drivers previous ID4 pads had lasted the lifetime of the vehicle 260,000 miles, when the car was written off.

Watching 'Rurouni Kenshin' on Netflix.

The director is desperately trying to be Akira Kurosawa.

Unfortunately he's not, and the acting isn't making up for it.

Noble beast, asleep, with his tongue poking out just a little.

Dog has a new hobby: squirrel watching.

Certainly beats his last hobby which was running round and barking every time he saw a squirrel.

Catching up after work, pub, reading accounts of ICE abductions in the US.

Fuck me. I was in CA last year, spoke to a woman who was convinced that the UK was weeks from civil war.

Amazing that the states are so powerless in the face of a federal agency.

Last week:

Barclays: suspicious activity on your account, was this you?

No.

B: we'll cancel your card.

Today:

"Barclays": suspicious activity on card ending xxxx. Was this you?

No...

"B": Ok shall I cancel your card?

LOL, nice try, card's already cancelled.

"B": <muffled> <ends call>

For some reason the Tidal version sounds like trash, is it the MQA?

It's... loud... so any messing is going to be prone to clipping.

Anyway, first time listening, gotta love random social media recommendations.

Ok, for once, this album does need remastering, given they let the half deaf band member help produce the original, and the first proper producer resigned rather than be a part of it, but I'm still trepidatious...

Me, reading the recipe:

"Add tomatoes, spirit vinegar and sugar"

Look, if you want me to put ketchup in it, just say so.

Hey, FT, you know who the biggest user of cobalt used to be? The oil industry, to remove sulpher from petrol and diesel.

You know who the biggest user of cobalt will be by 2030? The oil industry. Because the EV industry has been actively trying to remove it.
The Elements of Power — the brutal cost of the battery industry
Nicolas Niarchos delivers a sobering exposé of the human abuses and environmental damage wrought by the demands of EVs and the energy transition

Have written to my MP for the third time in my life.

This time just asking why he and his party continue to have active accounts on the cp generating site xitter.

Finally managed to make a decent cup of green tea by putting boiling water in a cup, putting the tea bag on top, waiting five minutes and then pouring the tea into a separate cup without disturbing the tea bag let alone - god forbid - touching it with a spoon.

Yes, I have reinvented the tea pot.

Just walked into the kitchen to discover OH digging around inside the toaster with a fork.

You've turned it off at the plug right?

There is some serious risk/reward analysis failure going on here.

Some years ago when my bones weren't healing the doctor told me to go to the gym and lift weights until either the bone regrew or the metal plates failed.

It worked, but it turns out I'm now limited to 41kg on the bar bell curl before the pain in my plates gets too much, 125kg on the bench press.

Not linking because the guy's trying to make a serious point and I'm not, but every time I hear something about betraying the republic it makes me want to rewatch I, Claudius.

There's still ice on the lawn, but the sun has warmed the gym up to shorts and t shirt temperatures.

Small wins.

「どうぞ召し上がりください」

Translated as

"Please dig in"

I think this might actually be a tasteless joke on the part of the translator, given the context, and they should be retrospectively fired for it.
