After passing through the focus group, here is the next exciting installment of my blog: Sunsets, spreadsheets, and languishing leaves.

Mostly pictures of the conferences I attended and presented at over the summer. Enjoy!

I finished @zevhandel.bsky.social's Chinese characters across Asia (2025) and it was great. What I wrote on goodreads:

This is a great and accessible introduction to how Chinese characters work, how it evolved, and how Korean/Japanese/Vietnamese/Zhuang made them work for themselves.

This morning's reading: @kjhealy.co 2017 "fuck nuance", which I was led to by revisiting @bodowinter.bsky.social 2019.

I find it
1 all very American and all to throw out nuance in favor of abstraction
2 necessary to do so to arrive at better and more robust theories

What should we omit today? 🤣

Time for the kick off event of #LILI, the Leuven Interdisciplinary Language Institute

Inaugural talk by @asliozyurek.bsky.social who reminded us how multimodal language actually is and how we may expect an increasing shift towards multimodal media in the future 🙌🙌
