There's no such opportunity for adaptive response in the context of a democracy if someone resigns post-election without an understanding of why. Everyone loses - party, MP, and constituents.

Oh when you put it like that, 100%. Crucial part for me is the lack of public explanation. If someone crosses the floor, regardless of how idealistic or how opportunistic their intentions, their actions tacitly endorse the new party's platform, and voters can punish them accordingly.
