honestly i would expect on a community norms level it becomes discouraged because the tool part of filtering out users is more critical to maintaining this thing

i think its useful to highlight here that for most even highly social sceney users blocking on twitter is a socially meaningful action. itll be interesting to see how the tool vs social interaction part of it shakes out here because spam and bots will be more of an issue

there was a point in like 2016-2017 where there were some actually firm boundaries between communities and filtered lenses on the platform but it collapsed afterwards

very few people actually use blocks prolifically on twitter. blocklists have fallen out of favor as well. generally speaking we’re all seeing the same feed except for very specific interpersonal disputes

rotating through my somewhat overlapping sets of blocklists to try and see a whole conversation but not see anything that bothers me

i like this idea in abstract tho it is weird to think through the details of like different demographics having wildly different experiences of the same platform due to filter choice. masto did this so poorly it feels like an unfair comparison & there isnt much else

instance level blocking and moderation probably makes sense just for quality control but lol interpersonal problems dont have platform solutions
