Now I'm left with the question... what the fuck do I do? Neither of them are willing to correct the error, and I don't have the money to pay this. Our system is broken by design to make lives of transgender people harder. Fuck that, I'm not paying for a broken outdated system.

It’s absolutely ridiculous that gender is even part of this process when a Social Security number and insurance ID can identify anyone instantly. Keeping this useless requirement shows how backward and careless the system really is.

I explained they only needed to submit the claim under sex instead of gender for it to be accepted, but they refused due to “policy” Now they expect me to pay this huge bill, and I’m not doing it. All of this just because we live in a system that makes life unnecessarily hard for transgender people.

Both the dentist and the insurance company insisted they couldn’t correct the information because of their policies. The dentist office even suggested I change my ID back to “M,” which is completely inappropriate and unnecessary.

When I called to ask why insurance didn’t cover it, I was told the claim was denied because of my gender. The dentist’s office uses the gender marker on my ID which says female because I’m a trans woman...while the insurance company uses sex.
