Carney government noncommittal about Canada meeting 2030 climate goals | CBC News
Prime Minister Mark Carney would not say Monday whether Canada will meet its climate goals under the Paris agreement by 2030, as his government faces criticism over his emission-reduction plans.

Canada won’t meet its 2030 climate target. Now what?
It's clear that Canada cannot hit its 2030 climate target that it set under the Paris Agreement. Now what?

Alberta had had an industrial carbon tax since 2005.
November 26, 2025 at 7:16 PM
Alberta is maintaining its industrial carbon tax at $95 per tonne, which is a freeze that went into effect in May 2025
November 26, 2025 at 7:15 PM
So Carney has no environmental criteria?

When you pick up 💩 with white gloves the 💩 doesn't get glovey.
November 26, 2025 at 7:09 PM
So Carney and his government abandon the environment as part of some high-stakes game of chicken...
November 26, 2025 at 7:02 PM
Why would Carney care about Smith's tantrums?

He has no hopes of winning ridings in Alberta, no matter what he says or does.
November 26, 2025 at 7:00 PM
Carney doesn't receive any support/votes from the UCP base. Never will.

So, there goes your theory.
November 26, 2025 at 6:57 PM
Carney can't suck & blow at the same time (he's no Kenny G).

Facilitating O&G production via pipeline construction is counter to increasing the industrial carbon tax.

A plan to increase Canadian O&G exports over the long term is tantamount to subsidizing tobacco sales in the third world.

Maybe.

Or maybe just taking the easy way out.

Lazy politicians do that.

If the lawsuits were to be valid, the entire governance of AIMCO needs to be revised:

Are the number of power plays per game up?
November 26, 2025 at 2:33 PM
Is there any validity in such lawsuits?

Is it really necessary to legislate in this case?

That TD sponsorship of Calgary Transit was a bad idea from the get-go.

Another misguided policy based on the concept that everything is for sale & that only the private sector works.
November 26, 2025 at 2:28 PM
All public transit should be free for everyone.

Remove funding from roads department budget and tge corrupt New Flames Arena.
November 26, 2025 at 2:26 PM
A safety issue?
November 26, 2025 at 2:24 PM
The cost of traveling on Calgary Transit is definitely a barrier to usage.

Measures to increase ridership need to be ramped up.

Backing off on Green House Gas limits...using that as a bargaining chip...

Gamesmanship with pollution as a pawn.

It says everything we need to know about federal gvnt commitment to the environment.

Maybe Carney's not a genius. Maybe he's just an O&G mole.
November 25, 2025 at 4:04 PM
How many days have I walked by this eye-sore at Calgary's most iconic tourist selfie Hotspot only to observe no work being done.

Is this work being executed by city employees, or a private-sector sub-contractor?
November 23, 2025 at 10:52 PM
Ward 7's new councilor Myke Atkinson promised improved mobility and specifically cycling infrastructure.

My expectation is that he will lead the charge in this matter.

Maybe an audit of this extremely long-standing project is warranted.

If for nothing else but to assess value-for-money paid .
November 23, 2025 at 10:50 PM
Some provinces don't spend all the healthcare $ provided by federal gvnt. That indicates a SURPLUS of funds.

Canadians need more focus on service levels (eg. urgent care & surgery wait times) rather than on funding.

Maybe a concerted plan to graduate more qualified Healthcare professionals?
November 23, 2025 at 10:43 PM
I recall.

Just forget how just 2 people sabotaged everything.

Was the budget adequate? and was performance towards goals being monitored before 2019?
November 23, 2025 at 7:40 PM
Starts at the top...

YYCCC talked a good game but had no appetite/interest for overseeing any of this.

Did YYCCC hold city GM accountable for implementation and targets?

Did YYCCC bake in necessary funding into subsequent budgets?

A recurring pattern on so many Calgary issues ...
