I think that's much 'safer' if you're worried about a bishop being unhappy with you about something. That said, I really hope a bishop would never pull anyone up for legitimate academic work just because it doesn't also function as church propaganda...

I think the type of ministry (basically, stipendiary vs. self-supporting/PTO) would be the biggest factor, rather than the fact of ordination itself.

This all reminds me of the attitude many churches take to queer people. Welcome and unwelcome, belonging but only under certain conditions, valued but only within harsh and cruel parameters, required to give so much of themselves for so little in return, and expected to be grateful for the crumbs.
