I've been making the jokes about Rick the Hamster Rolling ever since I heard about The Rick Roll in 2012, but I finally figured out what a Rick Roll was in 2013

Funny how that works

That's what everyone and their mother talks about with "Flanderization"

For a cog in the TV Tropes machine, you sure don't know shit about the tropes you blindly accept

I'm shocked yet glad this blew up

Want more Simpsons?, Here's an sound design edit I made earlier this year

I'll agree with the gradual decline thing (No skin off of The Simpsons)

But a better comparison would be comparing Maude's death to The death of Bleeding Gums Murphy

The Principal and the Pauper retconned Skinner's established lore, and makes no sense if you've payed attention to his war stories

Did you even read the full thread

You're fixating on one part of it and not the whole thing

I already mentioned him becoming a "Religious punching bag" after this part of the thread
December 1, 2025 at 12:40 AM
At least pinpoint specific episodes before Maude's death where he was just "The religious guy"

I would find episodes during the classic era where that's the case too, but I'm curious to see what you're saying

I would probably agree that him being religious was subtle at first and got worse overtime, I'm not defending that

I'm just saying that thinking in series, Ned wouldn't just become overly religious out of nowhere if Maude didn't die

If so, then maybe I'd 100% comply with this shitty buzzword term
November 30, 2025 at 10:59 PM
I would probably point to characters like Randy Marsh from South Park who just became a stupid dad later on, or Rick from Rick and Morty would became an inhuman pretentious jerkass with too much plot armor

My point was Flanders realistically would become more religious as a result of Maude dying
November 30, 2025 at 10:52 PM
Wasn't he always supposed to be an amalgamation of the annoying neighbor the writers didn't like anyway

and even then, his wife died, realistically he would become more religious to fill that void

and even then, I was joking about Ralph just to show how ridiculous TV Trope's shitty terms are
November 30, 2025 at 10:52 PM
I don't think you're digesting it

I said that despite Ned becoming a Christian punching bag, it didn't happen for no reason, and I'd argue there's been worse

I never said he wasn't just the "Religious guy"

Did you even read the full thread?

I literally said this in the last part of this part of my thread

bsky.app/profile/shri...
When Maude died, Ned had nothing else to fill the Maude-shaped void in his heart, until he became more religious as a result

and sure there would be times where he would just be "The religious figure", disregarding Reverend Lovejoy, but it happened out of having his love taken away from him
