This isn't even a "should we avoid fighting humanoids?", it's merely "why are we doing this?" Your first answer was literally "because they are in a dungeon and they're fair game". The location made the villain. He's evil because in evil place. You can be perfectly fine and play a game this way. It isn't a personal indictment on you. But one can also recognize where this method comes from.

Sometimes I see news about police violence in the US and news about protests and all of that and I try to give advice, but I receive replies like "if we do that, they're gonna kill us, you don't understand how violent police is in America." Well today I woke up and found out that Rio's Military Police killed 60 people in a single operation, to recover guns from drug cartels. Sixty people, in a single morning. The entire city was put in disarray. So many people lost family. To recover a little more than seventy guns. So tell me again I don't understand.
