I haven't shared any of my writing here in a long time, so here's a bit of an eremika fic I've been slowly working on for a while and really want to finish.
⚠️ Big spoilers for AoT so don't read on if you aren't completely finished the series!
A spur of rock jutted from a flat patch, covered in thick moss. The bird alighted gracefully as Mikasa stopped a few steps away. It looked like an eagle, but almost a metre tall, golden eyes level with the woman watching it. The black feathers hardly ruffled as Mikasa stepped closer. She stretched out a curious hand and the eagle tilted its broad head, storm-grey beak parting. Its huge shoulders separated and wings longer than Mikasa was tall spread out, startling her. In one motion it lifted off, its searing cry thrumming in Mikasa’s empty chest as it became a speck in the sky once more. “She’ll come back. She hasn’t seen you here before.” Mikasa knew the voice before she turned around and saw Eren, and joy exploded in her chest like nothing she’d felt in life. “Eren!” A small smile touched the face of Mikasa’s dreams and nightmares. He looked somehow ageless, both the child Mikasa had played with in the before-time and the man she’d cut down with her own weapon. If he wasn’t real, she’d have to make the most of the moment. She flung her arms around Eren’s shoulders, tears flying from her eyes, saying his name over and over.
