So I am artist in residence at my church and for last Sunday’s Reign of Christ I drew the service bulletin art. Agnus Dei — with all the triumphalism removed and Ruach — the breath of god — in place of the banner of victory. Plus Critter gets a cute little cameo! She loves Eucharist— wag wag wag.

Honestly if I could stay in a church community like this all day I would. It brings back the few good memories of my childhood. Maybe I will end up in one in the sunset of my life.

This is an old art from the Summer BTW. I then got a lump scare needing a biopsy and I think I clean forgot to share this. I’ve been dealing with old age and my oncoming fragility and frailty and hurried myself in projects to stop bad thoughts troubling me.

The biopsy was benign.

I had to revisit the art to give it a colour matching space for poster text. When I draw I usually consider popular framing plus mat options — if creatures can frame my art using an off the shelf frame of their choosing then that’s all to the good. Artist, consider your final framing sometimes.

For medieval Christians, this became a sign that even wild creatures recognised holiness. In folklore, it made him a wolf-guarded king, who belonged also to the forest, to the land.

For me and my burgeoning creaturely theology, Edmund endures because sanctity is affirmed by a wolf, not by empire.

Getting the original art we used for the show professionally printed on art board stock — there should be some available on the night

Today is the Commemoration of St Edmund of East Anglia. There’s a protective wolf in the story.

Hagiographies say he was beheaded: “As his followers searched for him, the head answered,"Here! Here! Here!" until they found it, clasped between a wolf's paws, protected from other animals, uneaten.”

I intend putting on some lower key solo or duo shows in bookstores and little sacred art spaces, but for this show Shimi and Friends is a show with friends and I could not be more proud of this lineup and the support of Impact, Dreampool and the Therians of Seattle.
