I got the idea for Blessed is the Rot while taking a radiation training course for my job and revisiting my old obsession with the video game Bloodborne. It seems like the story is resonating with readers, which is all I aim to do!

In general, science fantasy/dark fantasy tends to have more readers than pure science fiction at the moment. I’m not sure why, but so it goes. I don’t write to market. I have the ideas I have, and I write for myself, first and foremost.

The Others are cursed and viewed as enemies of the Church of Impermanence, but some worship these beings. These cultists claim that the Church lies and that the Others are humanity’s future. They long for the return of the synthetics and all the comforts such relics afforded the world.

Both on are my to-read list, but I’m currently deep in a (mind-boggling) read of Infinite Jest! Scary in a different way 😅

Fenrir longs for a return to his glory days, but that would mean a pardon by the Church and, even more improbable, Fenrir forgiving himself for his own grave crimes. He is lost in a limbo of pain, adrift and without purpose.

Blessed is the Rot, coming January 13.

But Fenrir is a shell of a man. Before his fall from grace, he was Ashtin Broodfell, an exceptionally skilled surveyor who lost everything when he defied the Church he once served.
