Today and everyday, toitū te Tiriti 🖤🤍❤️

My friend and colleague Amanda Larsson wrote this blog explaining exactly why Te Tiriti o Waitangi is so important to her as Tangata Tiriti - highly recommend giving it a read.

TTPD is a literary work of art. It’s a fan favorite but overlooked (the girlies that get it get it). Rep got similar treatment. TTPD maybe didn’t speak to the masses but I’m forever grateful to Taylor for pouring her heart out to make her most personal album yet. 🤍

If it was "common knowledge" then why was name suppression granted on the basis that it would be an election issue, something that could only conceivably impact ACT?

Why was Seymour so upset when an MP So much as *hinted* at in Parliament?

Thinking of Tim Jago's victims. It's very VERY brave to go through reporting a crime against a powerful person and even more brave to endure a jury trial. Thank you, you brave young men. I hope you have all the help and support you need to heal. May he rot.

Finally.

I expect the media to hound the ACT party for weeks and weeks and not let this go…

Why did they support this predator?
How the fuck did he end up president?

But I’m not holding my breath.
This piece of shit can finally be named. Shame on Seymour for fucking knowing about this predator months before his arrest! Guarantee he was helping him keep name suppression!

Yes, this is not something we're not hearing as much about as we could.
If you know the bill isn't going past a 2nd reading, all the work involved in getting it that far is a colossal waste of time, effort, and money.
A govt that's serious about governance simply wouldn't be doing this.
#nzpol
oh the irony of David "we gotta cut wasteful spending" Seymour's bill requiring the Justice Dept to spend hundreds of thousands on consultants to analyse submissions on a bill THAT WON'T GET BEYOND A SECOND READING

External consultants to analyse record Treaty Principles submissions
David Seymour has criticised spending on contractors, while analysis of his Treaty Principles Bill is expected to rack up a hefty consultants bill.

It. Will. DECIMATE. Them.

And so many are *completely* unprepared for what a shock to the system that would end up being. Fact is a lot of people simply don't think about this because it's always happened to "someone else".

An unexpectedly long 🧵 pointing to some of the underlying issues as to why this is where we are at.
#NZPOL
How that take (of instant $ gratification) persists in government officials is astounding. Every government for 40+ years has been told by the research community and outside experts that ample, sustained investment is needed to support future economic growth. None has 'operationalised' that advice.

You do not have to consume every single tiny piece of bad news in order to be a good person. It’s ok to miss things. Traumatizing yourself isn’t the same as activism. Bearing witness to the point that you’re paralyzed with fear and horror and fury isn’t going to help us get through this.
Remember their goal is to terrorize us. And social media is a fantastic way to spread terror. We don’t have to help them.
Based on the vibes of my timeline today I’m feeling like the next two weeks are probably gonna be a really good time to reduce social media use as much as possible. Because YIKES.
