So, I had this idea for an MDZS fanfic that I will definitely never write, based on the Japanese folklore Tsuru Nyobo (The Crane Wife in English), with WWX as the Crane, since the theme of destructive self-sacrifice for those you love is really on brand for him.

Same bird but watercolors.

I didn’t realize until recently how much CONFIDENCE watercolors require. It’s only been my primary medium for like, my entire life. But to really make it do its thing, you get /maybe/ 3 passes to get the right amount of color down! It’s very unforgiving.

I’m back at it with the birbs.

Maybe faces are fine, and it’s just likenesses I can’t do? Ugh, I dunno, I kinda hate it. More practice needed.

I ended up doing the same lotus painting twice over the weekend. The first was WAY too much color. I already knew I overworked my paintings, but this tutorial definitely helped me see how and why I was doing that. I improved on the second attempt.

Ok, trying out these watercolor tutorials. The first layer is down and looks… a bit like a hot mess compared to the artist’s example. I put down *too much* color. Pretty in character for me, tbh.

And then sometimes I get bored and put boobs on birds 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve joined the Patreon for a watercolor artist I really admire, and I’m planning to start on some of her tutorials this weekend. That’s still not getting me to my goal of being able to draw people and specifically scenes from fanfics that I really love.

Plants and animals are easy for whatever reason. And I think, despite watercolors being my medium of choice for 30 years, I kinda suck at it, but I’m liking how my colored pencil drawings are turning out.

Since I’ve been obsessing over danmei fandoms for the past 6 months or so I’ve wanted to start drawing some fan art, but… drawing people is HARD.

So I started just drawing anything to try and hone my skills a bit.
