Assistant professor of structural geology @ IGV, Stockholm University.
Interested in deformation of the deep crust, brittle and/or ductile, and metamorphic reactions.
Views and opinions my own. he/his
I am excited to share that this week I have started my new position as Assistant Professor of Structural Geology at IGV, Stockholm University! I look forward to exciting time and new challenges up ahead!

Having a great time studying fossil lower-crustal earthquakes, mylonites, and lower-crustal processes in Lofoten. This time with some extra excitement. We are joined by a camera team that produces short videos about the CONTINENT project lead by Luca Menegon @ UiO. Very interesting experience! 🧪⚒️

Caution! Reacting when wet! 🧪⚒️

Plagioclase breakdown in action with plagioclase reacting to clinozoisite + kyanite + quartz + white mica. The classic reaction at high pressure conditions. I just got some TEM results from these beautiful samples, so stay tuned! #thinsectionthursday

This is a map showing the orientation of diopside in a deformed symplectite. This used to be an omphacite, which tells us that the rock used to be at very high pressure (great depth). ⚒️🧪

If you want to read more about how such symplectites nucleate and deform:

So strong and yet so weak: Look at this beautiful 'weak' shear zone in a 'strong' gabbro from western Norway. Can't wait to get back to the field in the summer! 🧪⚒️

Brittle? Ductile? Brittle-ductile? If you are interested in why rocks deform the way they do, consider
submitting an abstract to our session at #EGU25!
The deadline to apply for travel support is on December 2nd!

Kvamshesten basin conglomerates sitting above the mylonites separated by a sharp brittle detachment. Spectacular outcrops! #folds #geology #mylonite @hugolantman.bsky.social @glgysteve.bsky.social

The most beautiful outcrop in the world! Beginning asymmetric boudinage and veins provide evidence of consistent kinematics during protracted deformation of the Nordfjord-Sogn detachment. #geology

Day 2 of the tectonics field tip took us through the basement of Baltica and to the Nordfjord-Sogn detachment! #geology

Day 1 of this years tectonics field trip: The pictures show flame structures in a turbidite sequence, providing nice way-up criteria, and axial cleavage-bedding intersections from folding of the sequence. #geology

Learned a lot during very interesting days in Bristol at the MSG research in progress meeting! Very interesting two days of talks and a great workshop on kinetics.

We have an age! Check out our latest paper on dating lower-crustal earthquakes! We combined apatite U-Pb data with microstructural observations (EBSD, CL). Open access!

Are you working on brittle and/or ductile deformation, possibly associated with metamorphic reactions? We would love to hear about it! Consider submitting to our session at #EGU24
