Hope your day is a good one

Barn now two-thirds done. Tomorrow various errands, including getting access to the house we will be living in for the next three months after we complete here. Will crack on with books, china & cutlery, and cooking utensils tomorrow.
Back to finish the barn on Tuesday.

I agree with David Hockney, moving the fragile, ancient Bayeux Tapestry to the U.K. for a show is ridiculous and monstrous.

Especially when (as I’ve just discovered) people in the U.K. can already see a full size replica, made in 1880, at the Reading Museum

Good morning
Can you believe that my favourite room (space?) in this lovely house is the barn? It’s a huge space, stone walls with oak roof beams, fully secure, very beautiful. Has had redstarts and a kestrel nesting in it. I shall be sad to say goodbye to it.
Today we start packing its contents.

Excellent dinner at Le Onze in the next village. Yum.
Tomorrow we start to tackle the barn. We could be some time

Treating ourselves to dinner out tonight at Le Onze in the neighbouring village of St Vivien de Monsegur. Only been open for just over a year, but absolutely excellent
In the meantime back to the sorting and packing … wish me well!!

Good morning
We said goodbye to our dining table and chairs on Monday. They’ve gone to a good home where they will be loved. I don’t usually ascribe sentiment to things but felt quite sad to see them go as they’ve been the centre of so many happy family times. Bought from OKA, they did us well.

One or two of these boxes were absolute shockers!!!
Good morning
Tackling some large boxes in the attic cupboard whose contents we aren’t sure of, other than “archives”. Not sure they’ve been opened since originally arriving here. Will probably reseal them for attention when they finally reach the next property (not yet bought, or even identified!!)

Good morning
Our buyers are coming round this afternoon for a walk round the garden (at their request). Meanwhile the briefing and handover document is now at 60 pages and 23,000 words.
Is this over the top?!

Good morning BlueSky
Sad news in todays Times that Russell & Bromley are likely to close. They’ve been my “GoTo” for shoes for decades. I saw the writing on the wall for them last winter, though, when I went looking for a new pair of boots and could only see great big clunky styles that surely

Good morning everyone
Our garden helpers are here for the penultimate time, turning compost heaps. I’m cracking on with the handover document, OH is jetwashing owl poo. It’s all go here!!

Good Monday morning
In 10 years of owning this house the (hardy) banana (Musa Basjoo), with no protection, has been barely affected by winter cold (sometimes down to -7 overnight)
This year it has been completely and utterly nuked!
Returned from holiday to find this melted mess
It will grow back

Important
Two-thirds of UK voters wrongly think immigration is rising, poll finds.

Net migration to the UK fell by more than two-thirds to a post-pandemic low in the year ending June 2025, but 67% of the people polled thought it had increased

Good morning from SWFrance
Smooth travel yesterday, hit the pillow after 1. Bit late for us!
A regrouping day today, opening the shutters, unpacking, doing washing, bit of shopping first thing (Sunday closing at 1), walking around garden to check for storm damage
Start packing tomorrow
Happy Sunday

Good morning
A travel day today but not until this evening so still a few more hours in this lovely place.
What a great week we’ve had!
Hope you have a good day even if you’re not in sunshine
January 10, 2026 at 7:55 AM
Just enjoyed our final dinner in this excellent hotel. This week, for relaxation before the final Big Pack, has really done the job.

Since when did videos become renamed as reels?

If a new app was produced which had, as its core features, the generation of sexual deep fake images of children and calls for a violent global far-right revolution, then not only would it be swiftly banned, but you wouldn't have a single mainstream politician willing to associate themselves with it

Good morning
I finished reading this book yesterday
Brilliantly written, very imaginatively created, deeply disturbing on many levels, said by some to be his best book so far
If you’ve read it I’d be interested to hear your reaction
Meanwhile our last full day in the warm sunshine of Tenerife …

Good morning
This was my view from my coffee spot yesterday
Lovely colours
Another gentle day ahead of walking, resting, reading
I couldn’t do this kind of holiday all the time but now and then it’s wonderful

Shortly to do the same
Following what was then sage advice, I locked down and stopped using my twitter/X account ages ago but kept my user name and did not deactivate. But today I've deactivated my account completely. Feels like scraping shit off my shoe.
