Hi r/toronto, Let me say this clearly. After riding Line 6 myself during the opening, it became immediately clear that the Finch West LRT is too slow. We are fixing this. Tomorrow at the TTC Board, and next week at City Council, you will see motions coming forward to direct staff to implement active transit signal priority on Line 6 and the soon-to-open Line 5 as quickly as possible. But we aren't stopping there. We will be directing staff to improve streetcar speeds everywhere. Thank you for always advocating for better transit, TTC riders are a priority just like the traffic signals. Let me know if you have other suggestions to make our City move better in the comments below.

Progressives have long worried that the influx of affluent voters into the Democratic coalition would lead to down-rating of working class economic interests. This is happened, but the mechanism hasn't been moving right on economics it's that donors' top issue is climate.

Follow Hahaha. Trump's tariffs are so unnoticeable to the average taxpayer that they're now forced to talk about them in terms of a tax "cost" to consumers—something they'd never do for literally any other "tax."

Noem and her close adviser Corey Lewandowski have sought to deflect blame from themselves for any White House frustration with the pace and scope of the deportations, pinning it instead on the leaders of the agencies in charge of immigration enforcement — acting ICE Director Todd Lyons and Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott, the DHS officials said. Underscoring the turmoil, Scott recently expressed concern to colleagues that Lewandowski is able to monitor his emails, the two officials and another DHS official said, sparking concern among other top staffers that their messages were being reviewed. “Everyone in leadership is so worried about what they say in email and text,” one of the top staffers said.

In some cases, the Trump administration has used precisely the same tools Democrats were all too happy to wield a few years ago, but to accomplish different ends, and Democrats have suddenly cried foul. The point is that proponents of left-progressivism didn't just win the battle of ideas fair and square, as we're often told; they won in part by employing illiberal means that they immediately recognize as troubling when employed by their opponents. While I'll be first, second, and third in line to decry the current president's shameless weaponization of our justice system, the left hasn't exactly covered itself in glory in its pursuit of charges against Trump since 2020. When the eminent Harvard law professor Jack Goldsmith is penning op-eds in The New York Times to warn that your prosecutions may have ominous consequences for the body politic, some introspection is probably in order.

Such policies and practices tend to produce what is sometimes called "victimhood Olympics," or the habit of competitive jostling to show that your combination of identity markers (as a Hispanic lesbian with a medical disability, say) entitles you to a higher status than someone else's. This is what is meant by "intersectional" identity politics. Unsurprisingly, one side effect of such a political approach is that those at the bottom of the victimhood totem pole—namely, straight white men—feel increasing resentment and rage over being denied respect and opportunities based on attributes outside their control. They correctly note that this flies in the face of the ethos of the Civil Rights Movement, which rather famously argued that people deserve to be judged by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. It has also more generally increased the salience of race and other tribal labels, training people to think of themselves as members of "affinity groups" whose interests they share and to whom they owe a sort of primary loyalty. No wonder we've seen a rise in white nationalist and Christian nationalist sentiments, with young conservatives in particular taking to complaining that mass immigration is diluting America's once-dominant Anglo-Protestant culture.

A friend back in the US forwarded to me yesterday a Twitter thread in which a leftist journalist uncovered in archives proof of a terrible story that I had long suspected was true, but hoped against hope was not: that my late father was a member of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1960s. Judging from his tweets, the journalist is hoping to use this terrible fact to hurt me -- as if the hidden sins of my dead father were somehow my fault. I don't want to play along with that scheme, but after thinking about it and praying about it overnight, it seems to me that it is worth talking about, because the fear that this might be true has driven so much of my writing in the past. Besides, people are understandably going to wonder about this, and as unpleasant as it is for me to talk about in public, I can't very well keep silence.

Loomer got the NSA deputy director nom pulled
The White House is withdrawing @JoeFrancescon as its nominee to be the National Security Agency’s (NSA) Deputy Director, meanwhile the acting Deputy Director will retire at the end of the month. This means the top two positions at NSA and the four-star commander at Cyber Command will remain vacant for 8 months and counting. All because of infighting in the White House and the involvement of whacky Laura Loomer in hiring. We are at Cyber War everyday and the inability to get leaders in place is gross negligence.

I put it to him that Reform did make clear they were going to make cuts in Lancashire, to save money and eliminate “waste”: “If there are parents who have paid into the system all their lives, worked hard for this country, if they’re waste, then we might as well just give up,” he says. I ask him why he voted Reform. “I thought it was going to change Great Britain for the good. You know, to stop all the boats and everything coming in, and to be fair to the people who’ve paid into the system, who’ve lived here all their lives. All politicians, they’re all in it for themselves, I think. I was really excited about them and now I’m disillusioned.”
