Sometimes I get lost on the road of life
Ironically my left breast is sore but it's because I was carrying a big box of tools and tripped and fell on top of them directly into my chest

Since I made this post there have been two more "you can have ____ right?" and the answer was no but I was only asked after the question didn't matter anymore

There's probably 57 year old people who like castlevania music, but you know what I mean

The internal struggle of "which is worse, to do it and have my fears confirmed, or not do it and still feel bad anyway"

If it's any consolation, social media has been designed to cultivate those feels of wanting to be seen/feeling left out, to a harmful degree. It's how they keep everyone clicking.

An overly effusive companion that often leads people into making bad decisions after making them psychologically dependent on it

While also racking up huge debts and causing quantifiable environmental/social impact

Is not great

When it's functioning as "the public face of AI"

But for the most part it seems like the industry as it stands now is balanced like a Jenga tower, with bricks continuously being pulled out from the bottom and put back on top as "growth"

and so many of the promises hinge on it being so, rather than a facsimile of it.

There are many massive latent costs like the environmental, power infrastructure, and real estate impacts, that are required by the industry operating, and that part is largely being shunted off as a future concern

That being said there are many cases where AI has potential use, but those are places that should have been focused on specifically, rather than casting the net wide with "AI" as a solution to every possible need.
Creating consistently valid, trustworthy data via generative AI is not a thing yet

It's essentially been an extremely sophisticated tech demo to wow people, that costs billions of dollars and will continue to cost more and more. The more they extend the runway with investors, the more catastrophic the crash is going to be if/when it runs out without taking flight.

Right now most of the central promises of "AI" as a tech boom, bank on money that has yet to come and future developments that have yet to be. The various things that exist now are mainly just there to try and get buy in on a vision, with something better to come if you just wait a little longer.

That is a difficult question, because we are pretty deep into unsustainable growth at this point, at least wrt openai.
Everyone has put their eggs in the basket hoping the hype machine pays off, and if you don't heap praise on every potential application of AI then you "don't get it"

It's similar in some ways to the whole subprime mortgage thing, in that so many companies outside of the niche it is in now have their (financial) hands in the cookie jar, but it's also so much worse because of all of the lasting impact it will have no matter what happens
