One of my fondest, albeit increasingly hazy, memories is auditioning to go on Knightmare with a few school friends, either season 4 or 5. We didn't get picked in the end, but after watching the show for a few years, waiting until I was old enough to give it a bash? A lil dream come true.

Aww, yeah, that was such a sweet little tribute.

To keep the illusion, the dungeoneer would wear a bucket of a helmet with no visor on their head, rendering them effectively blind, hence the giving directions from the team watching with the dungeon graphics overlaid on their screens.
For fans of D&D and CRPGs, this was a real treat.

There was more to Knightmare than amusing team deaths, though. Each episode would take you through a medieval fantasy dungeon of digitized paintings and computer graphics, which grew larger in scope in season four with the addition of the eye-shield and on-location filming.

Yeah, same. Apple computers had been one of the big computer gaps in my experience, and I've really enjoyed digging into Apple II and Mac stuff through emus this year.

Yeah! There was an even more kid-friendly version called Gelfling Adventures that turned it more into a choose your own adventure style game.

Ohhh yeah, I remember now. I remember having a cut-out disc like this for something now, but I remember my PC's drive wouldn't recognize it at all.

Yeah! Just different sizes, like the GC ones and the ones in my Mavica camera, which was already unusual enough. But oblong ones? Wild xD

Here's what they looked like. I've not seen anything like them before, so I'm fascinated by them and this fusion of media.

Ahh, it may be this one? A Troll's Tale.

As far as I can see, there's just the one version. So I imagine it works in the same way as filming a colour TV program when b/w television were more common? The producers made sure there was enough clarity on both and what colours they used didn't just like, overly dark in monochrome.
