3. Rather than directly banning Medicaid reimbursement for transgender care, the rule would bar any hospital that accepts Medicaid funding from providing gender-affirming care for trans youth at all, regardless of whether that care is paid for by Medicaid.

2. On Thursday, the Trump administration’s HHS, under Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., released a new rule that uses Medicaid "conditions of participation" to strip funding from hospitals that treat trans youth—the most aggressive attack on trans healthcare in U.S. history.

Trans kids and young people are already some of the most at-risk members of our community, in terms of mental health, physical safety, and housing security. Making their lives harder is hateful. And "protecting" them from the care they need makes all of those risk factors worse. 4/

But what folks outside the trans communities need to understand is that anti-trans measures are not coming from a place of medical best practices. They are CYA reactions to ceaseless hate campaigns & research cherry-picking by powerful anti-trans zealots like those in our current administration. 3/

There are already significant safeguards re: gender affirming care. In our area, kids have to go through at least a year of evaluations by a medical psych professional before GAF can proceed, and there were already too few options for even the most well-resourced families to get care. 1/
