I can see how this is impressive at a glance, to someone who might not be familiar with the work of actual artists.

Here’s the difference: photography is at its core based on the real world, and a human’s perception of it. Only someone who has never done the practice of going out and taken meaningful photographs would think that AI is the same as digital photography. Its more like hiring a digital illustrator.
