I re-read that a few years ago and just... it did not hold up well. I spent most of the re-read going "This is what I thought was peak fiction when I was a child?" A lot of their lesser known work holds up better, but still isn't as good as I remember.

So glad I didn't grow up as a Pokemon kid. I've been saying for years that Pokemon is lazy mediocrity (or rushed mediocrity more likely) that pulls stunts that if they were EA they would have been thrown on a pyre a decade ago.

Spore is the perfect example of why focus in gameplay is necessary to create a compelling game. There are 5 sections in that game and 4 are so utterly forgettable I had to double check to make certain there were 5. A game focused on the evolution stuff might have been fun.

I'm just shocked because, presumably, Fortnite had to get permission to use that from WB and somebody who, again presumably, knew what was up or could have checked went "Yeah, you can use that in the game for kids".
