The article is “Let’s Spend Time Together: Text Messaging Parents to Help Math-Anxious Students”- if you have access to it, I would appreciate it!

I always picture an equal sign with the lines moving to show the bigger side

I’m reading that book as well! Just finished Day 6 and it’s really resonating with me. May need to sit with it a bit. Did you read his book 4000 weeks too?

Anything you’re considering getting rid of, put it away (out of sight) for 3 months. If you make it 3 months and no one has needed it, you’re ready to pass it along!

Off the top of my head- all the whole numbers and their opposites?

True! I just think it’s more natural with the “new” method. Especially when you can see the place value/zeros.

I really liked your framing in the second note. That’s sort of how I approached factoring and had a great deal of success (or so I thought). I taught the steps independently and put it all together at the end (this is when I used the box method)

I thought it was Thursday ALL DAY. It’s so disappointing when you repeatedly realize tomorrow is not Friday

The changes to tables in docs…I’ll never understand!

That makes sense to me and aligns with my thinking. I was hoping to get some thoughtful push back on the other side, but maybe that won’t happen when I’m mostly asking a feed of math teachers! (Most people who disagree with me haven’t taught math) Perhaps #EduSky would have been a better tag!
