Amazingly, it's short for "Sputnik," because as a baby his bald head looked like the satellite.

Loosely. Syrinx was a nymph chased by Pan into the river Ladon. She transformed into reeds that Pan then used to create his pipes. The bird organ is named for the pipes, while the Rush song presumably takes inspiration from the myth.

Also, there was a joke going around a while back about identifying actors by a role that's NOT their best-known role, and I joked that I wasn't sure whether Fire Lord Ozai or Fire Lord Sozin fit better (Mark Hamill and Ron Perlman, respectively).

And no bailouts. If they couldn't be responsible with all the money they already grifted, that's their problem and shouldn't be everyone else's problem.

I haven't seen Andor and I like Rogue One. It's messy and choppy, but it tried to get back to the lived-in world of the original trilogy and depict characters that weren't Chosen Ones, so to me it makes up in effort what it misses in execution.

I enjoy that account. Mascots in general are fascinating, and Japan's love of having a mascot for *every*thing is just so much fun.

The lawyer will have to argue it's a failure to file situation, because 18 USC 3288 allows the refiling of charges within six months of a dismissal for any reason unless it falls within a narrow set of exceptions (of which failure to file would be the most applicable here).

It's complicated. 18 USC 3288 allows the refiling of charges within six months of a dismissal for most reasons. The judge said that doesn't apply in this case, presumably because he's determined it's a "failure to file" situation. Regardless of the reason, I expect the administration to appeal.

Agree with the first half, but torn between "oubliette" and "revoke his citizenship and deport him back to South Africa."

My mother had decent luck with regular ceramic pots using some sort of bark instead of soil, but that was a long time ago and they were (mostly) kept outdoors in Florida, which is not the sort of growing environment most people have.

You can play xylophone with a bow.

(It works better on vibraphone, but non-percussionists might actually have heard of a xylophone)

Only by a smidgen, since 7-4 is the last wild card for both currently (difference is NFC #8 is also 7-4, AFC is 6-5). Big reason the Giants are out already is they lost to all three NFC teams with 7 wins, so even if they win out, they lose all the tiebreakers.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding and it's supposed to be limited to "hoplite style metal body armor," but as-written, isn't the Argos cuirass predated by about seven centuries by the Dendra panoply?
